(Kuwait-AlummahWorld, Muharram 20, 1436, 13 Nov 2014) Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states' Joint Defense Council submitted a recommendation to the GCC Supreme Council to approve forming of a joint naval force. The council, as it concluded its 13th session here today, was hosted by Kuwait. The Gulf Cooperation Council states Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE formed the Peninsula Shield force in 1982 as a 5,000-strong army. The six states share thousands of kilometers of shoreline along the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea. They have a population of 50 million, about half of them foreigners.
