(Jeddah-AlummahWorld, 03 Rabi ath-Thani 1436, 23 Jan 2015) The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Iyad Ameen Madani, strongly condemned the continuing terrorist operations and infringement of the constitutional legitimacy in the Republic of Yemen. He denounced Houthis’ storming of the presidential palace, kidnapping and attempted murder of Yemeni political figures, use of violence against state institutions and seizing security and defense weapons and equipment. He considered this a coup against legitimacy that would only undermine the political process in Yemen. Madani asserted that such actions would render futile the output of national dialogue, peace agreement and national partnership, and disrupt the peaceful transition process sponsored by the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf and supported by the OIC, the United Nations and the international community. In this context, Madani welcomed the statement issued by the Forty-First Session of the GCC held in Riyadh on 21 January 2015 on the situation in Yemen.

Madani confirmed the OIC support for the constitutional legitimacy in Yemen symbolized by the President of the Republic, H.E. Abdrabuh Mansur Hadi, and State institutions. He stressed the need for the Houthis to withdraw from the areas they occupied, stop acts of violence against Yemeni citizens and support the political process.

The OIC Secretary General reiterated the OIC support for Yemen's unity, security and stability and its willingness to contribute to both regional and international efforts to maintain the unity of the Republic of Yemen and its people. Madani also expressed the OIC readiness to assist Yemen to face the challenges it is encountering, notably poverty alleviation and combating terrorism, illegal immigration and drug transit.
