(Riyadh-AlummahWorld, 05 Jumada ath Thaniyah 1436, 25 March 2015) The Second GCC Petroleum Media Forum on Tuesday approved a Saudi call for launching an independent media association to include all media people from GCC, Arab and foreign countries who specialize in the oil and energy field.

The just-ended forum also recommended launching an award for distinguished petroleum media people; the award would be given by the GCC host country of the biannual forum.
While opening the event on Sunday, Saudi Oil Minister Ali Al-Nuaimi suggested launching the association with a view to underlining the GCC contribution to the global economic growth.

The conferees urged making more efforts to improve the picture of the GCC countries in the international media and highlight the GCC role in stabilizing the world oil market and economic growth through sufficient oil supplies.
They called for holding more training programs for the petroleum media people on the national and the GCC levels in coordination with the oil ministries and companies, on one hand, and press institutes, on the other.

They also called on the oil companies to shoulder their social responsibilities through boosting their social, cultural and economic activities, and preparing qualified media cadres who could keep abreast with the revolution in the digital technology.

They asserted the importance of providing the public with timely and credible information on the oil industry in order to stem rumor circulated via the social media and strengthen confidence among the decision makers (the ministries of oil), operating companies, and the research centers.
Kuwait's Minister of Oil and Minister of State for National Assembly Affairs Dr. Ali Al-Omair took part in the opening session of the forum alongside with his peers from the other GCC countries.
