GCC states welcome UN Security Council resolution on Yemen

(Riyadh-AlummahWorld, 26 Jumada ath Thaniyah 1436, 15 April 2015) The Gulf Cooperation Council for Arab States (GCC) has expressed its deep appreciation for the adoption of the UN Security Council resolution No. 2216 under Chapter VII, describing it as a clear and strong message of unity from the international community to support the legitimacy and the people of Yemen.

The Secretary-General of the GCC, Dr. Abdul Latif al-Zayani, said that the GCC states appreciate the position of the UN Security Council members, which reflects seriousness of the international community to back the people of Yemeni and legitimate right to achieve their aspirations in a safe, stable and prosperous state.

Al- Zayani noted that the GCC hopes the resolution would be a step to achieve security and stability in Yemen, and back the legitimate leadership to continue the peaceful and political process with the participation of all political forces and the components of Yemeni society in accordance with the GCC initiative, its executive mechanism and outputs of the national dialogue and relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

He called on all Yemenis to respond to the calls of the international community and implement the UN Security Council resolutions through devotion to the homeland and abandoning selfish attitudes, renouncing violence and conflict in order to preserve civil peace and national unity, as well as the best interests of the people of Yemen.
