Suicide terror attack killed 13 in Saudi mosque

(Jeddah-AlummahWorld, Shawwal 22, 1436, August 7, 2015) Suicide terror attack reportedly killed 13 security officers in southern Saudi city Abha but Al Arabiya news reported the number of victims 17. The mosque said to be used by special forces in the Abha City.

The state television El-Ikhbariya said the explosion took place as worshippers were praying at a mosque used by Saudi special forces in Abha, describing it as a “terrorist” attack.

Saudi Interior ministry spokesman was quoted as saying that the victims were members of a Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit.The explosion happened at the headquarters of the SWAT team, which is tasked with domestic security.

“A group of officers from the emergency forces were performing afternoon group prayers in Asir province when a suicide bombing took place. It resulted in the death of at least 10 security officers, in addition to the three employees who work at the site and wounding nine others, three of them seriously,” Interior Ministry spokesman Major General Mansour Al-Turki said in a statement.

In July, Saudi Arabia arrested 431 people as part of a crackdown on a cluster of cells linked to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) militant group.

Saudi Arabia is leading military campaign against Iran backed Houthi rebels in Yemen. Since the crisis began in Sana which forced President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi to flee to neighbouring Saudia Arabia, southern areas of Saudi Arabia facing challenges of terror attacks.

Meanwhile, Saudi TV channels shows many nationals ran to help injured, providing blood at Abha hospital. Many Saudis sharing pictures on twitter and facebook showing people donating their blood for injured.
