(Jeddah-AlummahWorld, Dhu-AlHijjah 4, 1436, September 18, 2015) Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud received at Al-Salam urged UN chief Ban Ki-moon and members of the Security Council for “urgent measures” after clashes at Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa mosque compound.

According to state media SPA, King Salman “expressed strong condemnation of the dangerous Israeli escalation” at the holy site where Palestinian protesters clashed with Israeli police for three straight days.

“King called for serious and speedy international efforts and for the intervention of the Security Council to take all urgent measures to stop these violations,” it said.

He added that the “attack on worshippers” violates the sanctity of religions “and contributes to feeding extremism and violence in the world.”

Saudi King also telephoned several leaders such as U.S. President Barack Obama, British Prime Minister David Cameron, Russian President Vladimir Putin and French President Francois Hollande to express how he strongly condemns the Israeli escalation in the holy Al-Aqsa Mosque. He also calls Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas, Turkish president Receb Tayyib Erdogan and Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani.

Clashes erupted between Israeli police and Palestinians this week at the Al-Aqsa mosque compound when the Israeli police entered the compound and tried to prevent Palestinian entering the Mosque. Israeli police fired stun grenades and tear gas at rock-throwing Palestinians who barricaded themselves inside Al-Aqsa mosque and brutally tortured worshipers.

Israeli acts sparked condemnation across the Arab world and concern that the tensions could spiral out of control as pictures of Israeli police torturing Palestinian protestors at Al Aqsa Mosque circulated on social media such as twitter.
