Pakistan’s PM Sharif to go open-heart surgery in London

(Islamabad-AlummahWorld, 21 Sha`ban,1437 AH, 28 May 2016) Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will undergo open-heart surgery in a London hospital next Tuesday, officials said on Friday. But the premier looking after the state affairs and will join a cabinet meeting on Sunday over the video conferencing, officials said.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the prime minister said the ailing premier, who has been in London for the past three days, had been admitted to the hospital for the proposed surgery.

“After doing various tests, including an angiography, doctors have suggested that the prime minister has to undergo open-heart surgery,” the statement said, adding that Sharif will remain admitted to the hospital for a week after the surgery is done.

This is Sharif’s second visit to London for medical treatment in less than a month.

Earlier, on Twitter, the prime minister’s daughter Maryam Sharif appealed to the nation to pray for her father’s speedy recovery.

A spokesman for the prime minister said the premier was likely to remain hospitalised for at least one week, adding that he would return home only after doctors’ permission.

In the prime minister's absence, all affairs of the state would continue as per the law of the land, said the spokesman, adding that Finance Minister Senator Ishaq Dar would be responsible for managing the routine matters of the government.

Sharif was under severe pressure after Panama Leaks scandal which revealed name of his family members in offshore companies. Opposition parties are demanding Sharif`s resignation while the premier denied any involvement in the Panama documents scandal.
