Joint statement issued at conclusion of Saudi King Salman visit to China

(Beijing, 19 Jumada II 1438 H) At the conclusion of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud's visit to the People's Republic of China, the following joint statement issued today.

 

At the invitation of President Xi Jinping of the People's Republic of China, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud paid a visit to China from Sunday 16-19 Jumada II 1438 AH corresponding to 15-18, March 1, 2017 AD.

 

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and President Xi Jinping of the People's Republic of China held bilateral relations. They exchanged views in depth regarding developing relations of comprehensive strategic partnership between the People's Republic of China and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The two sides discussed regional and international issues of common interest. They have identical stances towards a number of important issues.

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques also met with Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China Li Keqiang and Chairman of Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China Zhang Dejiang. The two sides expressed satisfaction with the significant progress regarding relations between the two countries, especially after President Xi Jinping's visit to the Kingdom in January 2016 where they agreed that the High-level Joint Committee between the two countries represent an important framework for enhancing friendship relations between the two countries and two peoples as well as deepening practical cooperation in all fields. Within this framework, both sides expressed readiness to expand horizons of cooperation between the two countries in the political, security, military, economic, investment, health, education and mining fields in the service of the mutual interests and to increase cooperation between the two countries in the priority fields, including economic and industrial projects, fields of electronic government, infrastructure, advanced technology and space, as well as expansion of mutual investment between the two countries in all sectors, including: oil, renewable energy, electricity and peaceful uses of atomic energy in a way to raise the level of strategic partnership relations between the two countries to a higher level.

In this regard, a number of agreements and memorandums of understanding were signed between the two countries, which will enhance the existing institutional framework for relations between the two countries ensuring a continuation of and pushing the relations towards wider horizons in the service of the two countries' interests.

 

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia stressed its readiness to be a global partner in building "Economic Belt for Silk Road" and "Maritime Silk Road in the 21st century" and a main pole in west Asia. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia supports China's hosting of "Belt and Road" Forum for international cooperation.

The two sides expressed keenness on raising level of cooperation between the two countries in the fields of energy, including supplies of the Saudi oil for the Chinese growing market.

The two sides stressed importance of stability of the oil market for the global economy. The Chinese side appreciates the role played by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which is a safe and reliable source providing the world market with oil, to ensure stability of the international oil market.

 

They agreed to strengthen international economic cooperation and develop international trade within framework of Group of 20 (G-20) and financial and international institutions. The two sides hailed an expected role of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).

The two sides agreed to exert joint efforts in collaboration with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to accelerate establishment of the Chinese-GCC free trade zone.

 

The two countries expressed condemnation of extremism and terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, stressing that terrorism has not linkage with any race or religion. The two sides will cooperate in the fight against extremism and terrorism. The Chinese side expressed its appreciation of the steps taken by the Kingdom in this regard through declaring establishment of the Islamic Military Alliance to Combat Terrorism.

 

The two sides stressed importance of maintaining the unity of Yemen and achieving its security and stability. They also stressed importance of a political solution to the Yemeni crisis based on the Gulf initiative and its executive mechanism, outputs of the national dialogue conference and the Security Council Resolution no. (2216), confirming their support for the legitimate authority in Yemen. The two sides also expressed their support for efforts exerted by Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, UN envoy to Yemen, to find a political solution between the Yemeni parties and the international exerted efforts in this regard, as well as to facilitate humanitarian access to all regions in Yemen.

 

The two sides expressed concern about the situation in Libya, expressing hope that the national reconciliation government is to be able to restore security and stability in Libya and maintain the integrity and unity of the Libyan territories with the support of the international community.

 

The two sides expressed their support for the efforts of the Iraqi government in fighting the terrorist organization '"Daesh", stressing importance of preserving Iraq's unity, stability and independence.

 

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud expressed his best thanks and appreciation to the Chinese President and people for the warm reception and generous hospitality accorded to him and the accompanying delegation.
