Voicing his pleasure to visit Kuwait, a pillar of stability in the region, at the invitation of Kuwait Amir Sheikh Sabah, President Erdogan said: “I believe this project will be a new symbol of the friendship and brotherhood between Turkey and Kuwait.”

“Every time we visit Kuwait, we witness that this beautiful country grows more developed and prosperous. “We have seen in Syria what leaders, who turn their back on their people’s prosperity, happiness and demands and solely look out for their own interests, can get their countries into. We want administrators who serve, not oppress their people in charge of friendly countries,” President Erdogan said. “We want to see the countries, for which have a special place in our hearts, to be built up by capable and fair leaders, not destroyed by tyrants. We highly value the wisdom and visionary leadership, exhibited by my dear brother Amir Sheikh Sabah. As long as such leaders exist in our region, we can all look to the future much more hopefully.”

“We work to keep our relations with Gulf countries at the highest level in political, commercial, diplomatic, military areas,” the President said. “We should constantly keep open and expand channels of dialogue and solidarity for our region’s peace and prosperity. We cannot achieve our aims unless we consolidate our political relations with economic and social ones. Without a doubt, we should act on the basis of mutual benefit and support. We cannot build such a vast and strong foundation by only thinking about our own interests. We cannot look to the future with confidence unless we manage to do that.”

Stating that they work to strengthen the economic aspect of the relations between Turkey and GCC countries, President Erdogan said: “Turkey’s trade volume with GCC countries has reached $17.5 billion in 2016, which is an important development but given our potential, it is not sufficient.”

“In the last 14 years, Turkish companies have undertaken projects worth over $51 billion in the region,” President Erdogan said, welcoming the decision by the GCC to designate Turkey as one of the top 5 countries to cooperate with. “A free trade agreement between Turkey and the GCC will open new horizons for the bilateral relations between Turkey and Kuwait as well as for our trade with the Gulf region.”

“The political relations between Turkey and Kuwait, which derive their power from shared history, culture and values, are at an exemplary level. We have been improving our economic, commercial and political relations in a harmonious way,” the President said. “It is our top priority to enhance our economic and commercial cooperation with Kuwait, one of the most stable, safest and prosperous countries in the region. Our bilateral trade volume has surpassed $1.3 billion in 2016. The number of our Kuwaiti brothers and sisters who paid a visit to Turkey last year has reached 180 thousand. We follow with appreciation our business people’s efforts to enhance and diversify our economic relations.”

“Turkish companies are always ready to contribute to Kuwait’s development efforts in all areas. Similarly, we hope that Kuwaiti companies’ investments in Turkey, which is nearly $1.7 billion, continue to increase. We are ready to offer the necessary convenience to Kuwaiti investors as we have always been,” the President said.

“The peace in the world depends on the stability in our region. And the stability in our region depends on our resolute stance. Turkey and Kuwait’s cooperation on resolving the problems in our region will help prevent heart-breaking images and lead to significant developments. I believe the join will, we will exhibit with a feeling of responsibility for beyond our borders, can mobilize other countries, too. The level of our political relations and our countries’ potential show that it is possible to advance our economic and commercial cooperation much further. It is obvious that both our countries need to need to exert efforts and take steps on that matter,” President Erdogan said.
