(Ankara-AlummahWorld-Sha'ban29,1438H) Turkish President Recep Tayyib Erdogan speaking at the 8th International Turkish Language Congress in Ankara, said: “Language is the cornerstone of culture and civilization. It is very difficult, even impossible, for a society to preserve its other values if it loses its language. For this reason, where do the attacks on cultures and civilizations start from? They start from language. And nations collapse once they are dispossessed of their language.”

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan delivered a speech at the 8th International Turkish Language Congress at Bestepe Culture and Congress Center inside the Presidential Complex in Ankara.

WHERE DO THE ATTACKS ON CULTURES AND CIVILIZATIONS START FROM?

IT IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR A SOCIETY TO PRESERVE ITS OTHER VALUES IF IT LOSES ITS LANGUAGE

“As the Turkish nation, if we are today enjoying a history of written culture dating back to the Before Common Era, an uninterrupted state tradition of 2.2 thousand years and more than 1.4 thousand years’ accumulation of a universal civilization, we owe all this to our language, to our words, and to our values which we pass down from generation to generation through our words. As such, it would be proper for us to say that language is the cornerstone of culture and civilization. It is very difficult, even impossible, for a society to preserve its other values if it loses its language. For this reason, where do the attacks on cultures and civilizations start from? They start from language. And nations collapse once they are dispossessed of their language.”

“TURKISH LANGUAGE IS ONE OF THE MOST WIDELY SPOKEN LANGUAGES OF THE WORLD”

Stressing that Turkish language should be preserved even more strongly in our day when the world is under the threat of being limited to certain boundaries and languages because of technology, President Erdogan underlined the importance of the works and studies conducted regarding Turkish language, and added that the 8th International Turkish Language Congress, in this sense, heralded in crucial developments for Turkish language to reach the level it deserves in the world.

“Turkish language is one of the most widely spoken, most ancient and richest languages of the world. We have a deep-rooted language which deserves to be studied in detail,” underscored President Erdogan, and continued: “A human being utters his remarks by putting them into syllables, words and sentences by means of language, which is a great grace of Allah upon us. In this regard, our language, via which we make sense of life and objects, is our most beautiful attribute.”
