Turkey`s First Lady Erdogan Speaks at a Meeting on ‘Solidarity with Refugees’

(New York-AlummahWorld- Muharram 03, 1439H) Turkey`s First Lady Emine Erdogan made a speech on Turkey’s efforts related to refugees and humanitarian aid and shared her observations from her recent visit to the Rohingya refugee camp in Bangladesh at a meeting on the theme ‘Solidarity with Refugees: Humanitarian Approaches to Mediterranean, Africa and Myanmar,’ hosted by Turkey’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York.

First Lady Erdogan spoke at a meeting on the theme ‘Solidarity with Refugees: Humanitarian Approaches to Mediterranean, Africa and Myanmar’ at U.N. headquarters in New York. Among the names who delivered a speech at the event were Ugandan First Lady Janet Kataaha Museveni, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi and Director General of the International Organization for Migration William Lacy Swing. The speakers praised Turkey’s sensitivity on refugees and humanitarian aid in their speeches.

HUMANITARIAN CRISIS IN MYANMAR

First Lady Erdogan described in her speech Turkey’s policy on refugees and humanitarian aid and shared her observations from her recent visit to the Rohingya refugee camp in Bangladesh. Following her visit to Bangladesh, aimed at drawing the world’s attention to the plight of the Rohingya, the First Lady had sent a letter to the first ladies of other nations expressing her feelings on the situation, and penned an article about the issue for CNN International.

Feridun Sinirlioglu’s wife Ambassador Ayşe Sinirlioglu, First Ladies of Cameroon, the Comoros, Guyana and Libya, representatives from international organizations, Chief of General Staff Gen. Hulusi Akar’s wife Şule Akar, Minister of Justice Abdulhamit Gul’s wife Ilknur Gul, Minister of Economy Nihat Zeybekci’s wife Ayşen Zeybekci, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Berat Albayrak’s wife Esra Albayrak, President of the Turkish Businesswomen Association (TIKAD) Nilufer Bulut, President of the Women and Democracy Association (KADEM) Sare Aydın Yılmaz, President of the Turkish Youth and Education Service Foundation (TURGEV) Arzu Akalın, President of the Turkey Youth Foundation (TUGVA) Ismail Emanet, businesswomen Demet Sabancı Çetindogan and Meltem Demiroren, and NGO representatives also participated in the meeting, which was held under First Lady Erdogan’s auspices.
