President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a joint press conference with President Nicolas Maduro of Venezuela at the Presidential Complex.

Pointing to the agreements, signed before the press conference, President Erdogan said: “We attach special importance to the Economic Cooperation Agreement because it is an agreement that establishes the mechanism of the Joint Economic Commission.”

“We discussed steps that can be taken to boost cooperation in energy and trade. We also exchanged views on what could be done in agriculture, mining, tourism, transportation and development cooperation.”

Noting that the Turkish Airlines has been running flights between Istanbul-Havana-Caracas, President Erdogan said the Turkish Airlines has not left the people of Venezuela alone while many airlines stopped their flights to and from Venezuela.

Highlighting the rapidly developing cultural relations between Turkey and Venezuela, President Erdogan said: “We have agreed on opening a Yunus Emre Turkish Cultural Center in Caracas. It also makes us happy that a Simon Bolivar Center will be established within Ankara University soon.”

“Our relations with Latin America and the Caribbean continue to improve,” President Erdogan said, and added: “The parameters of Turkey’s foreign policy on the region are clear. We want all our Latin friends, without any discrimination, to live in peace, calm and prosperity. I would like to state that foreign interventions are not right. We want to promote our relations, particularly commercial ones, with Venezuela on a win-win basis.”

“We believe there is no greater power than people’s will. And we think foreign interventions usually aggravate problems,” President Erdogan said, voicing his hope that the recent problems in Venezuela will be resolved through dialogue and reconciliation.

President Erdogan noted that Turkey is prepared to provide support in this process.
